Power at Work: Actions, Strikes and National Regulations in Germany and Beyond
Dr. Neva Löw, Dr. Magdalena Polloczek, Dr. Johannes Specht
Power at work, what does it actually look like? Which actors use which resources of power for what purposes – and with what results? Which strikes are successful and why? How does a relatively stable system of labour relations develop for a better – for example, in collective bargaining or in the dual training system? In this seminar, we will explore topics that deepen a theoretical perspective on global labour relations, that discuss the role of trade unions and trade union practices in Germany and Europe, and further develop the power resources approach, asking what power resources are available to employees and trade unions. Germany will always serve as a starting point for further reflection and comparison. We are particularly interested in case studies of actions, strikes and national regulations that are designed to be effective and a critical reflection on the institutional framework conditions.
